Performance opportunities
- District Federation Festival"Gold Cup" (usually in February or March) is a regional competition in which each student who registers must prepare 2 qualifying pieces to perform in front of a judge. This is for students under the age of 19 years old. - Spring Showcase(in April) is an event that combines instructor and student performances! Students over the age of 13 are able to audition to perform a piece within a particular "themed" genre. Our instructors enjoy performing too, so this is a fun opportunity to collaborate and create something unique and special! - All State Festival is in May each year and traditionally takes place at Texas State University in San Marcos. This is for the students who earn qualifying scores at the District Festival, and is also judged. - Summer recital / Awards Ceremony (usually in June) is exclusively for HMA students. This performance has very few requirements and is simply for the enjoyment of the students and their families and friends. This same day is when Harmony instructors get to present our students with awards they have earned over the past school year! - Era Recital is exclusively for HMA students. This is a judged performance in which each student must prepare 1 memorized piece from a designated Era. We rotate eras each year: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, etc. This gives students the opportunity to be challenged by pieces that are challenging in different techniques, and of a different genre than our other performances. - Pop Show (usually in October) is exclusively for HMA students. This performance is judged, but is also open to family and friends to attend. For this performance, we offer extra credit to the students who dress in character for the piece they have prepared! - Holiday Recital (in December) is exclusively for HMA students. This performance is not judged, and students are encouraged to invite friends and family!
